Football coach Dave Crane is snapping players into action to join his selfie craze that is sweeping across teams in Hertfordshire and beyond. Dave Crane, who’s son and daughter are players in the U13 Boys and U13 Girls Bengeo Tigers teams respectively are hoping Runwiththetiger will follow the Ice Bucket Challenge in going viral for a good cause. The charity drive is raising money for Children With Cancer, with participants simply taking a picture of themselves in their kits and tagging friends to do the same.
Dave Crane will run the London Marathon next year and is looking to gain widespread support while getting some money in the pot for the organisation early and told the Hertfordshire Mercury that he hopes the simplicity will encourage people to get involved.
“The kids in our team could be in hospital next year, and the kids who are currently in hospital could be in our team next year,” he said. “They take a selfie with their thumbs up that says, ‘I support Runwiththetiger’. That’s it, it really is that simple. Through social media, they can share it, they can see who gets the most likes, they put a mask on or pull a silly face.”

Dave Crane explained that, while taking pictures does not raise any money for sick kids, it spreads awareness quickly, and encourages others to donate.
“We want something that raises initiative and money at the same time and want it to go viral before we start asking for donations, the fundraising is almost an afterthought.”
