Under 14 Sumatrans 6-1 Bengeo Tigers Bengals

With the team determined to put in a better performance than last week’s shocker, the opening minutes versus the season’s first leg meeting with their Bengals clubmates, started with a pleasingly balanced performance.

The Bengals opened the scoring when an 8th minute corner was converted by a well-connected header to take the lead.

The Sumatrans countered 4 minutes later, when James Brett worked hard on the left to net Sumatran’s equaliser.

With the Sumatran’s showing good pace and considered early release of the ball, there was plenty of attacking pressure for Bengals to defend.

Tobi Odusina’s debut was sealed when, a few minutes after watching his 17th min shot run wide, he took Sumatrans into the lead after slotting the ball home following a James Brett strike.

A further well-worked, 28th min goal by Tyler Jervis took the score into half time at 3 – 1.

The second half opened with the confident Sumatrans seeking to defend the lead but take every opportunity to pressure the opponent’s defence.

Solid defending by the back 4 of Richard Andrews, Jack Stewart, Joe Franklin and Ben Adams plus back-tracking from midfielders Craig Webb, Calum Dunnage, Tyler and James helped goalie Sam Milne keep the ever-present Bengal threat away from the net.

A goal-less 30 minutes of football was broken when a hectic last 5 minutes saw striker  Robert Heffer breach the opponent’s defence to score, Tobi secure his second and Tyler sneak in his second just moments before the final whistle blew.

Praise all round to the Sumatrans. We heard and saw good communication, good workrate, committed defending and confident attacking (all we can ask for!). Particular recognition went to Tobi Odusina for settling into the team seamlessly, demonstrating his determination and abilities in a praiseworthy debut. Thanks also to today’s substitute keeper, Sam Rider, for his patience and sideline support.

Man of the match spoils went to goalkeeper, Sam Milne, for his confident performance.
