This was our first game against Cuffley this season and we knew that we were in for a tough match as we had heard that Cuffley had been doing quite well. We needed to get a good performance out of the boys in order to compete and do well against a strong team.
Over the last few weeks we have been working really hard in training on getting the boys to think about ball control and pass and movement. We went into the game with a 2-3-1 formation with Jack in goal, with Ben (c) and Alex at the back, Oliver on the left, new signing Robert in the centre and Dylan on the right and Nicky was upfront. Subs were Jaye, Charlie and Harry. After our team talk before the start of the game the boys kicked off going uphill on a very two-faced pitch which was also very heavy under foot.
The boys surprised us all by coming out and playing somegood passing football and created some very good chances and came close to scoring on several occasions. I was really impressed by the way the boys were thinking about their passing and putting he ball in the right areas. In particular Robert who was in the centre was winning all of the 50-50 challenges and just seemed to have a really big engine and was full of running. Also Ben and Alex who were very solid at the back and were putting in some great tackles when needed. They were also backed up by Jack who had a couple of important saves to make. Oliver also seemed to be linking up really well with Robert and had good understanding with eachother.
The half time score was 0-0 which gave us the advantage of going down hill in the second half. We brought on all 3 subs keeping the same format and carried on playing our passing football going down hill. We had good opportunities from Jaye, Harry and Nicky who was always full of running. Unfortunately with all of our opportunities which we had we just couldnt break though and the game finished up 0-0. I was really please with the way the Tigers played their football and i have always said that its not all about the winning but the boys giving 100 percent and applying themselves and they certainly did this today.
Special mention to Ben who was mom and also for Robert making his debut performance and who was outstanding in midfield.
