John Warner Blues 2-6 Under 13 Sumatrans

Lifted by last week’s victory, the U13 Sumatrans were quickly into their stride again this week, taking an early lead against John Warner Blues, with a 25 yard screamer from Finn Slade. Another superb cut in from the left and long range effort from Finn put the boys two ahead. John Warner refused to lie down though, pulling a goal back, before another cut in from the left by Ben Brett, looping the ball over the keeper from distance, restored the two goal advantage. A superb move between Tom Claydon and Jamie Holton, sweetly finished by Louis Yianni made it 4-1, but while the lads looked good going forward, they still looked a little fragile at the back, as John Warner scored a second just before half time for a score of 4-2 to Bengeo.
A few adjustments at half time saw Bengeo come out of the blocks strongly again, creating several chances, with Tom Claydon providing some wonderful crosses.
However, it was the defence that really stepped up a gear, looking resolute against some sustained pressure from John Warner.
Eventually it was Bengeo who found the net again, with Harry Smith getting his name on the score sheet. Ben Neate rounded things off with a superb run before slamming the ball into the back of the net.
Not one lad had a bad game today; Max was hard in the tackle, Tom Curnock good in the air and James reliable at left back. Charlie had one of his best games in a Bengeo shirt, while Michael made some surging runs from midfield. Jamie was the teams’ engine again, Jacob pressured the defenders well and Connor made life difficult for the John Warner forwards, getting his angles right to good effect.
An entertaining game played in the right spirit. MOTM Ben Neate - who covered every inch of the pitch, playing in several positions to great effect. Well done boys. Ian.
