Bengeo Tigers FC

The formidable Bengals 5-a-side team have followed the success of last season’s 4 trophy wins, by winning the Mercury Wodson 5-a-side League’s first cup competition of the season – the Challenge Shield.

With only 5 players Alex Raven, Dave Thomson, Simon Scott, Ali Phipps and Duro Ceko available on the night, and being drawn in the ‘group of death’ this was always going to be a difficult evening.

The group games began against Great Eastern Sunday – who took a shock early lead, however a second half revival saw a comfortable 4-1 victory. Next up old adversaries Better Removals, despite battering the opponent’s goal for most of the match a 1-2 loss was recorded. League champions Mcdaddies put up a great fight but could not reply to Ali Phipps fine strike so an excellent 1-0 scoreline ment we finished as group winners.

In the quarter final Young Lions were put to the sword by an impressive 8-1 margin. In the semi final League Runner’s Up Hertford Glass were shown a lesson in clinical finishing, the full time score being 5-1. The final saw a rematch against Mcdaddies, some superb saves by Alex Raven, resolute defending by Dave Thomson and glorious movement and passing from goalscorers Simon Scott, Ali Phipps and Duro Ceko led to an emphatic 5-2 scoreline. And so the cup was lifted for the second time in 4 years.
