Under 16 Sumatrans 1-6 Wormley Blacks

Ideal playing conditions brought a welcome change to the downpours of recent Sunday’s and a chance for Sumatrans to tackle one of their toughest matches of the season.
Starting this week were Sam Rider in goal, a back four of James Brett, Jack, Richard and Ben, midfielders Warren, James Levy, Craig, Chris and Calum with Robert the lone striker and Andrea, Tyler and Sam Milne ready on the bench.
The game started well for Sumatrans; the opening minutes settled down with both teams getting decent possession of the ball. Wormley nibbled at Bengeo’s defence but early attempts were shut down or forced shots wide of the target. Sumatrans had early chances too, including Robert’s shot in the 10th minute which he couldn’t strike cleanly to watch it skate just wide right of goal. Wormley’s strength was evident however and some well placed long passes gave their forwards some charging attacks for Sumatrans to deal with including their well set up opportunity in the 17th minute forcing Sam to make a terrific save however, soon after, Wormley succeeded in the finding the net with their first goal on the 18th minute.
Sumatrans goal was a beauty and came in the 25th minute when good build-up play fed the ball to Robert who struck a cracking left foot strike from 18 yds out to watch the ball curl high inside the left post to equalise.
Tyler replaced Chris for the remainder of the first half and to the frustration of watching Wormley claim a second goal just minutes before the half time whistle.
Sam Milne took over the goalkeeper role for the second half but it was to be the poorer half for the team. Wormley wasted no time in sealing 2 more goals in the first 5 minutes of the half and despite a number of tactical substitutions and overall good effort from everyone in the Sumatrans, Wormley’s strength, speed and determination won them the greater opportunities. A further two goals later in the half sealed the convincing win.
Well done to Ben, named Sumatrans Man of The Match.
