The U9 Siberians were in action the previous Wednesday and played a 60 minute game against Brentford\'s U9 Academy. The game finished 7-3 with two goals from Lewis Matthews and a goal from Luc Howford. A really physical encounter and we were pleased at how the Bengeo Players held their own against a very good academy team.
Today we welcomed our friends from Cheshunt Youth to Sele. The place had a real buzz about it today with football being played on all pitches. On the pitch next to ours Hertfordshire Schools U14\'s beat Norfolk for a place in the Counties Cup semi finals.
The pitch looked in top condition after Perry had donned his grounds-mans cap the day before. The Bengeo players came with good attitudes and ready to play football and Marc and I felt that they were all up for it today.
The game started with quick pace and we had our first effort on 3 minutes, William Orton\'s strike was superbly palmed away by the Ambers keeper. On 6 minutes we sensed danger when Cheshunt broke and were one on one with the keeper, good tracking back and a slide tackle from Alphie Marshal raised applause from the sidelines. We got our first goal on 9 minutes, Sam Belshaw launched in a Rory Delap throw and William Orton turned it in the goal. We immediately pressured from the retake and Will Orton responded when their keeper fumbled, he managed a shot which ricocheted off their defender for our second. Keaton Weekes kept the margin intact with a fine save on 17 minutes. A minute later we were awarded a free kick five yards out of the penalty area. Max Lawrence struck a thunderous free kick which almost splintered the crossbar. On 21 minutes Luc Howford played a short corner to max Lawrance who drove the ball low and hard for our third goal.
The first half had been good but the second half was a fabulous game of sweeping moves, a magical spectacle which was relished by the Bengeo supporters. Five minutes in we were four up when William Orton received the ball from a corner and shot from outside the penalty area for his hat-trick. Shortly after this Will Orton rampaged through their defence and unselfishly dink-ed the ball to Reece Giddens, Reece belted it and it flew straight back off the cross bar. Cheshunt got a goal back on 9 minutes when we failed to shut down their forward move.
Bengeo recovered from the distraction of conceding and continued to play with complete sang-foid. The next goal was pure Brazilian, Alphie Marshal won possession in our half, looked up and found Will Orton with a 20 yard lofted pass, Will showed neat footwork to beat the keeper and roll it in for our 5th and wills 4th. Reece Giddens left foot effort on 16 minutes was well struck and was narrowly wide of the goal.
On 18 minutes it was Sam Belshaws turn to demonstrate a bit of trickery, he flicked the ball up and over the player challenging. This was met by Keaton weeks who knocked it on with his head. The ball fell to Luc Howford who drove it hard from outside the penalty area for our seventh. A minute later Keaton Weeks found Luc Howford with a magnificent pass and Luc belted it into the top corner. Bengeo were now in 5th gear and moving in a blur of blue and white movement. Luc Howford found the ball near the corner flag, dribbled past 3 players and passed to Keaton, Keaton dribbled past one more and found Reece Gidden who finished neatly for our 9th. We completed a magnificent display with another great move. A cracking pass from Keaton Weeks to Luke McCurry, Luke received with composure and crossed to Luc Howford who completed his hat trick and a 10-1 victory.
Special mention to Sam Belshaw and Alphie Marshal who were faultless as a defending duo and created lots of forward movement. Really difficult to pick a man of the match but we chose Keaton Weekes, great goalkeeping first half and a skilfill, determined second half.
The second game started well and in the first minute the ball was knocked around with ease between Lewis Thomas, Lewis Matthews, Harry Malady-Rashford and Ethan Jocelyn. The ball eventually found it\'s way to Joe Button who was unlucky, his strike finding the side netting. Cheshunt had a few efforts in the first half which were safely handled by Patrick Sinfield in goal. It took us 20 minutes to get our first goal, Lewis Matthews ran with the ball from halfway and struck with his laces, the keeper had little chance. We ended the half two up,the rampaging left back Lewis Thomas went on a charging run and unslefishly found Ethan Jocelyn with a pass inside the penalty area, Ethan pulled the trigger and shot, the ball struck Lewis Thomas who\'s momentum had carried him through, the ball found the net from Lewis.
Early in the second half Patch Sinfield found himself one on one with the Ambers centre forward, the ball was driven low with pace but the agile Patch got down quickly and smothered it. He followed this by plucking another decent effort from Cheshunt out of the air. A minute later he was at it again snubbing out another one on one attacking chance. Will Arch was looking like an Italian footballer with his new hairstyle and on 9 minutes when Ethan Jocelyn picked him out with an eye of the needle pass, he danced around the keeper like a \'Serie A\' centre forward for our third. We ended the game 4-0 winners, a Cheshunt Corner was snatched from the air by Patch Sinfield who looked up and spotted Will Arch in space. Patch launched the ball out to Will who controled and ran at the keeper, neat footwork and he found the back of the net.
A good result against a decent Cheshunt team. Special mentions to Harry Malady-Rashford and Lewis Thomas who defended ruggedly today. Another good team performance we awarded man of the match to Patch Sinfield for a perfect days goalkeeping.
Marc Sinfield and Karl Howford
