Under 16 Siberians 5 Wodson Park Rangers 1

2010 at 10.56 PM posted by Rob Alexander

Alert the media; there was a mugging at Sele on a Sunday afternoon and it was by a group of 14 lads on a bright sunny day. I had a bad feeling about this fixture and rightly so as Wodson came out of the traps flying and our 18 yard area resembled Rorke\’s drift. Fortune was definitely on our side as we held on to a nil-nil scoreline going into the welcomed half time interval. All the lads knew they had to up their game and they did just that. Boydy and Luka scored a couple before Craig finished off some lovely passing football with an amazing 30 yard rocket that flew past their keeper. Wodson battled on and pulled a goal back before Boydy thankfully found his finishing touch again & restored our breathing space. Dan managed a screamer of his own & it was game over! The scoreline certainly didn\’t reflect the passage of play but who cares eh? Most pleasing factor was when one of our lads lost out in a tackle another Tiger stepped up to the plate, then another until we regained possession. The dream continues…..COYS !  Dave Rayfield

Bengeo Tigers V Nazeing Youth

2010 at 09.31 AM posted by Graham Skinner

Squad: J.Hickman, H.Ives, M.Grundey, J.Crosby, B.Grover, M.Fell. O.Skinner (C), C.Hillier, J.Vanderweele, T.Parkhouse, H.Orton, S.Jones & O.Clinkscales.

This week after an abscence since the 19th of December last year we finaly returned to home turf at Sele School in a game against Nazeing Youth. This was a game that was a must win game in order for us to keep in the mix at the top of Division 2.

We kicked off and straight away we were pushing forward and on 2 minutes, Owen Skinner picked up a pass from Henry Orton and shot low and hard with there goal keeper saving well.

On 5 minutes, in a move that involved Callum Hillier, Joe Vanderweele and Toren Parkhouse that involved some very slick passing, the move found Henry Orton who beat the off side trap and he put the ball away well to make it 1 - 0 to us!

However this goal definatley woke up Nazeing Youth and had an adverse effect on us as Nazeing started to play football and they were stopping a lot of our play at times. The game was being played in midfield for a majority of the time and it really was a battle in there.

In a rare move forward from us in the 23rd minute, Joe Vanderweele found Max Fell out on the right wing who slotted in a great ball for Toren Parkhouse and as he was about to shoot on goal was challenged from behind in the penalty box and gave the referee no choice but to award a penalty to us.

Up stepped Henry Orton to take the penalty who shot towards the top left of goal but Nazeing\’s keeper got a hand to it to make a great save and the ball dropped towards our oncoming players but the keeper got to it to snuff out the follow up threat from our forwards.

This penalty save really did lift Nazeing Youth again and at times we were being outplayed and although we were one nil up, Bengeo Tigers looked nervous out on the pitch today.

Half time came at a good time for us. The boys took on some refreshment and we sat them all down. Our message to them for the second half was to get the shape of the team back, be more composed on the ball and to start to play it out to the wingers where we knew that we could attack well from as opposed to going long ball up the field every time.

The second half commenced and to be fair the boys they had listened at half time as we did look more composed and confident. However Nazeing were still stopping us getting forward and they then started to attack us and on 31 minutes, they went for goal however James Hickman was quick of his line to stop the attacker and got down well for the ball.

James then unleashed a great kick which found Joe Vanderweele who linked up well with Henry Orton. Henry picked out Max Fell who slotted home on 32 minutes to make it 2 - 0!

This gave us some breathing space but Nazeing had other ideas. They were attacking still and at times pulled our midfield apart. On 37 minutes, Nazeing broke forward and went for goal. James Hickman got a finger tip to it which put it on to the bar and in a 1966 world cup like moment it came down on to the line and luckily it was deemed by the referee not to have crossed the line and it was safely back in the hands of James!

After this heart stopping moment it woke up Bengeo Tigers and we started to play football again and at times the movement was good and unfortunatley at times for Henry Orton he was caught just offside on a couple of occasions by a whisker but this did not put us off in going forward and on 54 minutes, Owen Skinner picked out Joe Vanderweele with a pass that sent Joe on his way and after taking on 3 players lobbed the keeper with a great effort to make it  3 - 0!

After this goal we started to dominate more and play football as we have been doing all season.

On 60 minutes, Max Fell picked up a pass on the right from Joe Vanderweele after some great work in midfield from Bengeo. Max went on a run literally from the half way line and took on at least 6 players. Was he going to pass to the forwards who were in great space - NO! Max carried on his run and slotted home through the keepers legs from 6 yards out to make it 4 - 0! This was a great solo effort and one where I wish it was on camera for Max to watch what he had just done - simply amazing and very Pele esq!!

That was it, the referee blew for full time and was I glad today that he had.

Today was for a strange reason a difficult one for us and it was so unlike Bengeo Tigers Under 11\’s after our previous games and great performances. However if you had said to me 3 points, 4 goals and a clean sheet before the game then yes I would have taken that as things are really hotting up now at the top of Division 2 and as I have said previously, we have to maintain the run that we are on as I do strongly feel that there are more twists and turns to come yet in remaining league fixtures of the top 4 teams in Division 2.

Man of The Match……

Today this goes to a player that quite simply kept us in the game after being alert and switched on for the full duration of the game. His kicking was brilliant and his hands definatley saved us today. Well done to James Hickman - keep up this good work and it shows that your hard work in training is now paying off!

Wormley Youth 5-4 Under 9 Siberians

2010 at 04.46 PM posted by Karl Howford

A bright sunny morning was consolation for having to make the trip down the A10 to Wormley today.

By the form both teams had been showing and our depleted squad we knew it would be a close encounter.

Frustratingly we started the first game slowly and we appeared to fear our opponents. Our hesitation to play early on cost us and we conceded two goals within the first four minutes. To be fair Wormleys second was an absolute screamer which sailed 20 yards straight into our top corner. There was little Keaton Weeks could do. In 12 minutes Alphie Marshal got his head onto a Lewis Matthews free kick and his effort was narrowly wide. This was followed by two good strikes from Lewis Matthews, the second was wide but the first required their keeper to pull off a good save. Wormley still dominated the half and on the stroke of 15 minutes they extended their lead with their third goal. Max Lawrance continually tried to create chances and ended the half nursing an injury. We couldn\’t wait for half time to arrive because our kids just hadn\’t played how to their full potential.

Keaton had injured his arm in the first half, so we switched Harry Malady-Rashford into goal at half time. After half time words of encouragement the kids started the second half with real determination. They started to play as a team and knock the ball about well. The Wormley coaching staff who had been over enthusiastic in the first half were suddenly subdued. In the first minute Lewis Matthews had another good effort, denied by the Wormley keeper. We got a goal back on four minutes, a bit of a goal mouth scramble and Alphie Marshal got a head on it to send it goal-wards. A minute later Will Arch cleared to Lewis Matthews who found Luc Howford with a lofted  ball. Luc\’s effort on goal was saved. Wormley broke on the counter attack and produced an efforts which was handled well by Harry Malady-Rashford. Seven minutes into the second half we reduced the deficit when Keaton Weeks sent a through ball to Luc Howford and Luc finished with simplicity 3-2. Not long after a good move which was started in defence from Sam Belshaws forward run led to another Lewis Matthews strike which was saved. Keaton Weeks had been like a pitbull in the second half and I lost count of the number of times he stole possession. Another through ball from Keaton found Max who\’s strike whistled past the post. On 17 minutes and totally against the run of play Wormley got a goal to take the scores to 4-2, prompting wild celebration from the Wormley coaching staff!!. The kids much to their credit, stuck at it and on 20 minutes Keaton Weeks ran down the line and knocked over a decent cross. Luc Howford met the ball and volleyed straight into the Wormley goal 4-3. The Bengeo kids were winning the second half by a country mile and we could both sense more goals. Extraordinary as it seemed the ref blew up for time three minutes early and the game ended 4-3. Marc and I were extremely pleased with the second half performance. This was a great game of football and the kids of both Wormley and Bengeo were good ambassadors for their clubs today. We awarded man of the match for the second week running to Keaton Weeks, a young lad who is maturing in attitude and sporting ability before our very eyes.

After the excitement of the first game the second was a more evenly matched encounter throughout. Patrick Sinfield demonstrated the benefits of the extra goalkeeper training with a fine save on two minutes. We came close on 13 minutes, a kick out from Patch Sinfield bounced over the Wormley defence, Will Orton connected and tried to lob the keeper sending the ball only just over the crossbar. A good block by Patrick Sinfield on 14 minutes and Zoe Martin got across lively to clear. On 19 minutes Will Orton broke down the right hand side, unable to cut in he crossed a good ball over, Ethan Jocelyn had made a good run and stretched for it and was unlucky not to connect. Zoe Martin had performed robustly on the right and she tackled to win possession before finding Will Orton. Will ran with the ball and fired a shot from an accute angle which was well saved by the Womley keeper.

We\’d kept a clean sheet kicking uphill in the first half but I didn\’t know how the kids would hold up without the luxury of subs.

Patch Sinfield was at it again straight away in the second half and got down low to save a decent Wormley effort. He followed this up with another good save on five minutes. After this we sustained a period of pressure from Wormley, good clearances from Luke McCurry and Lewis Thomas but the ball fell to wormley outside the area. A really powerful shot that by rights should have needed up in the top of our net but for a leap and punch clear by Patch. Eight minutes into the second half Wormley took a corner which arrived at the front post, a well taken flick saw the ball loop over Patch to give Wormley a 1-0 lead. We pressed Wormley from this point on and it wasn\’t long before Joe Button equalised with a volley from the edge of the penalty area. Another save from Patch on 15 minutes and then Wormley were awarded a penalty, a wormley shot hit the hand of Joe Button, Joe didn\’t know much about it but the ref awarded a penalty. The Wormley taker struck it low and hard but the agile Patch Sinfield dived on it like a fiver blowing in the wind - another great save. From this point on it was all Bengeo and we pressed and pressed the Wormley goal. On 16 minutes Zoe martin found Will Orton with a perfectly placed through ball, we all held our breath as Will pushed towards the Wormley goal but he shot narrowly wide. Next it was a good through ball from Joe Button who found Will. Will was one on one with the keeper, surely this would be the winner but unfortunately Will was tackled by a defender tracking back. the clock struck 22 minutes and we hoped that the refs watch was working, the ball ricocheted around the wormley penalty area and shots from Will Orton, Ethan Jocelyn and Zoe Martin were all parried away. We had been playing with only one defender with five minutes remaining and Luke Mccurry\’s presence in Midfield was making a huge impact. With a couple of minutes to play all caution was thrown to the wind and Will Orton was joined in attack by Patch Sinfield. We bombarded Wormley and despite finishing with five corners in quick succession we just couldn\’t find that extra goal. the game finished 1-1, 5-4 on aggregate. Another hugely entertaining game the players from both sides were the stars today and Marc and I came away feeling very satisfied with the performance.

Good performances from all seven kids but man of the match was awarded to Luke Mccurry who did everything right today.
